1992 Michael Penn – Free-For-All
Free-For-All was singer-songwriter Michael Penn‘s second full-length record, released in 1992 on RCA. There were no big hit singles of the strength of his only top 40 hit, 1989’s “No Myth”, but the album did feature two songs that reached the Top 20 on the Modern Rock Charts: “Long Way Down (Look What the Cat Drug In)” peaked at number 14, while the second single, “Seen the Doctor”, reached nine spots higher. The album led to a bitter battle between Penn and his record company, leading him to forgo releasing a follow-up until 1997.

Michael Penn is one of the most underrated & underappreciated artists in the rock genre, being the brother of Sean & Christopher was only marginally helpful in getting people to sample then buy his albums. I became interested as a result of a membership in the old Columbia Record Club & after reading a featured & very favorable review of one of his first albums, decided to take a chance; I now own three of his albums & continue to enjoy his complex yet enjoyable lyrics & style. In trying to start a bio of his “Seen The Doctor” on Genius.com, cannot find anything about it or much of his work on the; Internet.
