1981 Maxus – Maxus

Maxus were a musical group and the US West Coast AOR active for a short time at the beginning of the eighties.

Following the example of Toto, the Maxus, the most band member are session musicians, decided to give life to this project, the line up included Jay Gruska on vocals, Robbie Buchanan keyboard, Michael Landau on electric guitar, electric bass and Mark Leonard Doane Perry on drums. Compared to Toto, the sound of Maxus AOR was tending to fusion music, the time Jay Gruska assets had a solo album titled Gruska On Gruska published in 1974, Robbie Buchanan was a keyboard player had written columns Sheet of the Bette Midler film the Rose, the same score he had collaborated on the band’s bassist Mark Leonard, who in addition had assets of some recorded albums with John Waite, Pat Martino and Rob Grill. The group worked on their self-titled album that was released in 1981 and produced by Michael Omartian, the album can be appreciated the feats guitar Landau and abuse of synthesizers, which are excellent bases for Gruska vocal melodies. During this period the band also shot a video clip for the song Nobody’s Business taken from their first album. Despite the technical value of the five, however, the album was not as successful as hoped, and Maxus broke up a year later.
