Sessiondays is a project of honoring, collecting and sharing information of the sessionplayers throughout the 70s and 80s moving to the later years. It started collecting all the sessions of Steve Lukather. Then I got frustrated about finding the information on several sites, so I am trying to combine the information to this site.
Later on I started to collect all the Toto members sessions and since the numbers of albums it was increasing rapidly I started a facebook page and share my finding to other Facebook groups and pages and Instgram: Neil Stubenhaus, Abraham Laboriel Sr, Ray Parker Jr, Carlos Vega, JR Robinson, Robbie Buchanan and Marty Walsh. It is great to see the musicians dropping by to comment their works on Facebook and Instagram.
Besides collecting the sessions, I will try to interview other sessionplayers or musicians who worked close with the session players, to get an impression how the sessiondays were. Check out the interview section. I hope to find more sessionplayers and artists to share their stories.
Without the help from my friends Frédèric, Lorenzo and Herwig I wouldn’t come so far. Thank you!
Some rules:
I rarely post Greatest Hits or Compilation albums, unless they have bonus tracks on it.
Albums with covers (writer’s credits) will be posted or added to the musician’s list if they hit the US and UK Charts.
There is more to improve this site. This is a start and let’s see where it ends. I am doing my very best to to find the copyrights behind the pictures I find, if I miss it, please let me know and I will correct it.

Hey,
thought I’d let you know that I really enjoy yur site and love finding intersting info while reading it. As you I’m also very interested in those session musicians that played on hundreds of records and especially the Toto guys – real legends to me 🙂
I love Simon Phillips’ playing and that’s why I wanted to ask if you could make a section for his discography sometime? I’d really appreciate that!

Thank you for your mail and nice words. Simon Philips is on top of my list to add to the discography list. My first thought was to look into the LA sessionplayers, but the England sessiondays are interesting too. Simon was a Toto member and he sure deserves a place on my site.

Great site. I wish I had the ability to do something like this. I’m a liner notes junkie and love the idea of those being online. One question: any chance you can have the songwriting credits on your site? I like looking for songs by composer.

Nice to see the unsung heroes given a bit of TLC.
I spent over 25 years making some massive hit albums, but also many that never even got noticed.
All in a day’s work to a plugging muso.
You never know how it’s going to turn out, but the talent of those involved deserves to be recognised.

In fact, Comedienne was my third album, recorded in 1981 in LA but released in Europe, mostly in France, in 1982 !
First and second were recorded in Paris (France).

I happened upon your terrific site as a result of searching for new info about our dear departed friend Carlos Vega. This day is forever etched in my heart as the day he left us in 1998, 24 years ago. We haven’t been the same since. I’m not a musician per se’, but Carlos arranged a drum kit that I bought in ’96 and he generously gave a ton of hardware to me. I’ve always been a liner notes junkie, and it is very gratifying to digest your comprehensive catalog of his sessions. All I can say is, Thank you very much for this therapy.

Tom Saviano here. I just came across your site for the first time using Google. It’s a very nice page with what looks like a lot of research.
Most of the musicians here are either my friends or someone I did a session with. I noticed you did a little page on me with about four albums
that I worked on. That makes it look like I didn’t do very much. There are about another 150 albums I did in the time periods you mention where I was either the arranger and conductor or I was a featured soloist and of course a session musician. On most of those albums I worked with most of the musicians that are listed on here. Quite a few of those albums went platinum and won Grammys. I’m just wondering why
they were left of the list? I think if you are going to list a professional musician on your page, you should give equal treatment to each musician that has basically equal accomplishments otherwise it looks like you’re playing favorites! Looking forward to hear your response. All the best, Tom

Researching some credits for Barry White & Love Unlimited Love’s These from the Rhapsody In White album and want to verify the rhythm section credits. If I am reading this correctly, it looks like there are drum and bass credits for Rhapsody in White and Love’s Theme only. I was under the impression that Ed Greene was on every track (which is Ed’s recollection), and that Wilton Felder was also the bass player on every track. Also, Don Peake also recalls playing on every track but seems to be credited all tracks except Rhapsody In White and Love’s Theme. Can someone help fill in the blanks?

Hi Dennis, thank you for you comment. We were in contact with Ed Greene about this and he approved he played (a lot of) drums with Barry White. Barry rarely put the credits on his album, which makes it difficult to find out who actually played on these records. I will add Don Peak on those albums. Wah Wah Watson played on Can’t Get Enough For Your Love, Baby.

This is my first visit to your site, so I may not yet fully understand it’s aims, but I was disappointed to see that my name is not on your list of Session Players. With nearly 50 years of Studio work, including 13 years in Muscle Shoals and 30 in Nashville, I would have hoped that at least one or two of my credits would have slipped onto your radar. I believe my allmusic.com credit list is over 1500 records. Perhaps your concentration is elsewhere, but if not, I’d like to assist in getting included.

Thanks Jan. You have done a great service to all of us musicians that played and recorded during those times. I would love to share some recollections of my interactions with influential musicians and recording artists. Thanks for including me in your site. It’s quite humbling to be seen in the same space with all of my musical heroes.
